In 1964 a group of families in Corinth decided to meet to worship God according to the plan he set forth in the Bible. The families included the Miller's, Claunch's, McDearmon's, Storment, Frank's, Archer's, Bynum's, Johnson's and Grisham's. Curtis Flatt, who was preaching in Florence AL, helped support the start of the congregation by providing chairs, songbooks and class material. Initially, the congregation would meeting in the building where Jim's Auto Supply is on Shiloh Road. Around 6 months later, the group met in the building on Shiloh Road that now houses Gold Bond Pest Control. In 1965 J Claunch donated a parcel of land located on the corner of Meeks and 2nd Street. Mr Heavener from Ripley built the building for around $20K. As building was completed, E Bingham began preaching there. In 1978, the church bought a piece of property on third street and enlarged the parking lot. Following E Bingham were H Hartsell, W Watts, W Little, R Fudge, Philip McGaha, L Atherton, J Allen, D Holloway, A Turner and D Chancellor. Attendance at Meeks St. started with around 25 people, at one time it reached 126 people. Today we average around 40 in attendance each Sunday. The church does not currently have any elders or deacons, in the early 70's the church did have elders for a short time, E Bingham, H Bynum and M Grisham. |
